Dear Abbey: Longing for hugs

First of all, kitties always love their people. I especially love my people, they feed me and brush me and accept my affection when I am ready. Did you catch that part? When I am ready.  This is just who I am and how I love.

I should also mention that cats don't like to do the same thing all the time. We like to keep our people guessing, investigate sleeping spots and nap times to ensure optimum rest potential. This is especially true during the change of seasons when the sun moves and where our house is warmest. (I particularly like to get very warm in a sunny nap and then find the coolest, smoothest surface to lay on) Of course that didn't answer your question about your cuddle party.

So tips on a kitty cuddle party!

1. Timing - Plan that cuddle party during prime snuggle hours. Either early in the morning after our breakfast, or after a nigh time snack before play time. See the relationship with food? Full tummies = cuddle parties.

2. Don't over stimulate - Take it easy on the petting and scratching. A little goes a long way and leaves us wanting more. Soft touches and slow, even strokes feels the most relaxing and purr inducing.

3. The "T" word - No shame in bribery. A treat after cuddles is a perfect motivator. My roommate likes to lick Vaseline off of Daddy's finger... disgusting.

Good luck Lonely! And don't give up, your kitty girl probably has tons of cuddles stored up waiting for a weekend cuddle-fest.

Kisses and Tail Swishes,
Abbey
